About Outcome-based Massage...

If you've been injured in an accident, those injuries, left untreated, can end up causing chronic pain for months or years after the original accident. Injured muscles heal with scar tissue in a way that can make them painful, weaker and prone to re-injury.

Soft tissue therapies, such as massage, can address those issues. The primary goals are to reduce pain, increase range of motion and restore normal functions to the body's soft tissues — your muscles, ligaments and tendons. Treatments are based on an understanding of the principles of physiology and how they affect soft tissue dysfunction.

Outcome-based massage therapy, or clinical massage, helps to restore muscular strength, flexibility, and normal function by correcting and restoring full range of motion to the injured connective tissue. This is important for muscular recovery. Muscles may not heal completely if given only time but no therapy.

Massage therapy can be effective in treating a number of conditions, which include but are not limited to: tendonitis and other tendon injuries, whiplash, low back pain, pain from scarring, sprains, strains, sciatica, painful trigger points, repetitive stress injury, surgical rehabilitation, sports injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome and headaches.

When your doctor or chiropractor gives you a prescription for massage, the treatment you will receive is different than "wellness" massage. The goal is to help you recover from pain and injury as quickly as possible.

Your physician will give you a prescription stating what kind of treatment you should receive, how often and for how long. You will receive an assessment of your soft tissue, and a functional exam, both visually and hands on. This will help determine how best to apply your physician's recommendations for treatment.

Treatments may include the use of hot or cold packs, Swedish massage, trigger point therapy, scar release, myofascial techniques, therapeutic stretching and other methods.

Clinical massage is not a full body treatment, as the focus will be on the prescribed areas only. We will work with your physician to determine the focus and goals for your individual situation. We will also document your case to help show the medical necessity of clinical massage therapy.
